With the economy in turmoil many people have found themselves forced to live off of a tighter budget. For those looking to build a home it can seem impossible to achieve this goal, but many people are discovering there are many benefits to building prefabricated houses, or modular homes; instead of custom homes. While many people have a negative opinion of these prefabricated homes it is often because they get them confused with mobile homes. There are many differences between a mobile home manufacturer and a modular home company.
There are many similarities between mobile homes and modular homes, the first being that both types of homes are made in a factory. Once constructed these pre-made pieces are transferred to the property via truck and assembled upon arrival. However while in this aspect the two homes are similar this is usually where the similarities end.
The difference between these two houses begins in the factory. While a mobile home is constructed usually from start to finish in the factory, a modular home is not. Instead the factory works to create all the components needed to build the home and these pieces are then sent to the construction site to be put together creating the finished home. The on-site construction is similar to the process used to construct any custom home on the market.
One of the biggest differences between the two is that a mobile home is always mobile; it can be moved from one location to another with ease. A modular home on the other hand is only mobile before assembly; once it arrives on the site and is set up the home becomes permanent. Once built it is built there is little difference between it and any other constructed home.
Another large difference is the way that they are constructed after they arrive at the build site. They both arrive at the site on the back of a truck however the way it is assembled is incredibly different. If it is a single wide mobile home it arrives in one piece and only needs to be immobilized on the foundation, a double wide usually comes in two pieces and simply needs to be attached and then immobilized. With a modular home however, the home itself comes in pieces that must then be constructed in a way similar to the construction of a traditional model.
You do not have to look at this as second best anymore and there is no reason that a tight budget means you cannot build your dream, this is a great way for you and your family to build the house of your dreams on a budget. These are an economical way to have a house, made in just a few weeks; best of all the quality and design of your new house will be just as good as any traditional custom structure for a fraction of the cost.
Connor R. Sullivan has noticed an increase of prefabricated houses springing up because of their low cost. He and his wife consulted with a mobile home manufacturer about purchasing one for a vacation home.
